How do you enjoy an event without filming it on your phone the whole time?
The short answer
Decide in advance on a few moments when you simply stay present without your phone, and trust that someone else is capturing them. When you know the photos will reach you anyway, it is easier to lower the camera and enjoy.
The moment the phone goes up, we shift from being inside the moment to watching it from the outside. You do not have to give up taking photos entirely. Take one good frame, then lift your eyes back to what is happening.
When an event has an organized way for the photos to reach every guest afterwards, guests no longer feel they are the only backup of the memory, and that frees them to be truly present.
